Description

This park is located on the eastern shore of Lake Dunmore at the base of Mt. Moosalamoo. The Green Mountain National Forest is its neighbor to the east. Historically, the 69-acre park operated as a farm at the turn of the century, then as a guest house, summer boy's camp and private beach and picnic area. The 1,000 foot natural sandy beach, clean, clear Lake Dunmore, and the large open grassy areas make the area very popular for swimming, sunning, or picnicking.

Geography:

Located on the shores of Lake Dunmore, this park is adjacent to the Moosalamoo National Recreation Area and the Green Mountain National Forest. The rock cliffs above the park are home to peregrine falcons and a number of rare or uncommon plants.

Recreation:

Excellent camping, swimming, boating, fishing and picnicking. Canoe, kayak and standup paddleboards are available to rent. There are over 70 miles of nearby hiking trails leading to scenic vistas, waterfalls, caves, mountain lakes and streams. Mountain biking trails are also available. Nature and interpretive programs are also offered.

Facilities:

1 fully furnished rental cottage, 19 tent/RV sites and 7 lean-tos are on one side of the highway in a heavily wooded area, and 17 tent/RV sites are located along the perimeter of a grassy open area near the beach. There are restrooms with flush toilets, hot and old running water and coin-operated hot showers. There is also a concession stand selling snacks, drinks and beach toys. Drinking water is available throughout the park. There is a RV sanitary station but there are no hookups. No camping in or around pavilions. Camping on designated campsites only.

Nearby Attractions:

Chimney Point State Historic Site, Mount Independence State Historic Site, Moosalamoo National Recreation Area, Salisbury Fish Hatchery, Shelburne Museum.
