Description
Brighton State Park, camping is located on the shores of Spectacle Pond. A sandy day use beach and bathhouse is located on Island Pond just a half mile from the campground. Island Pond enjoyed a heyday from the late 1800's until the Depression years, along with the fortunes of the Grand Trunk railroad between Montreal, Canada and Portland, Maine. Island Pond was the site of the first international railroad junction in the United States.
Geography:

The outstanding attraction of this area is its remoteness: mountains with tree-covered slopes, fast running streams, and clear lakes. The wild lands to the northeast and southeast of the village of Island Pond are suited to the angler, the hunter, or the outdoor lover who likes to roam away from developed roads or towns. Logging roads into the deeper reaches of this area offer adventurous side trips.

Recreation:

Excellent camping, swimming, boating, fishing, hiking and picnicking. Canoes, kayaks, pedal boats and standup paddleboards are available to rent. Nature and interpretive programs are available. Hiking and universal trails highlight the natural and cultural history of the area.

Facilities:

4 rental cabins, 54 tent/RV sites and 23 lean-tos, restrooms with flush toilets, hot and cold running water and coin-operated showers. Firewood is available for purchase. There is a campers' beach, and nature museum. At the nearby day use area at the southern end of Island Pond there is a long, sandy beach, a bathhouse with restrooms (and boats available to rent). Drinking water is available throughout the park. There is a RV sanitary dump station but there are no hookups.

Nearby Attractions:

Bald Hill Fish Hatchery, Kingdom Trails Mountain Bike Trails, Fairbanks Museum and Planetarium, the Clyde River, and Silvio O. Conte National Fish & Wildlife Refuge.
